In 1954 I was converted into a cruiser; with an engine, a galley, bunks, heads, etc. Since than I have been cruising the Med from east to west …and back. During the next 50 years or so SYLPHE was sailed and raced in the Mediterranean. It seems she was well maintained, with Mauric himself always committed on a number of alterations and small repairs. Her original mast was replaced with a new, taller hollow wooden mast in the 1980s. A new teak deck was also placed on top of the original one during this period. So when she came up for sale in the south of France in 1999 her new owner found her to be in reasonably good structural order, but scruffy, dated, and in need of a lot of attention.
